HP kauft Palm
Palm hat heute auf seinem offiziellen Blog bekanntgegeben, dass der Computer-Weltmarktführer Hewlett-Packard das Unternehmen für 1,2 Mrd. US-Dollar kaufen wird. Beide Unternehmen haben dies bestätigt. Dies ist eine große Chance, sowohl für HP als auch die angeschlagene Firma Palm. Der Marktanteil bei Smartphones aus dem Hause Palm lag zuletzt bei knapp 6%. Auch HP hat bereits Erfahrung mit dem Bau von Smartphones. Sie verkaufen aktuell das iPaq.
Jon Rubinstein, aktueller CEO von Palm sagt dazu: “We’re thrilled by HP’s vote of confidence in Palm’s technological leadership, which delivered Palm webOS and iconic products such as the Palm Pre. HP’s longstanding culture of innovation, scale and global operating resources make it the perfect partner to rapidly accelerate the growth of webOS.”
Die Übernahme gilt ab 31. Juli 2010.
